Jack C.Harris is an American comic book writer and editor best known for his 1970’s and 1980’s work at DC Comics.
Harris will be among the guests at the First State Comic Con this coming Sunday (January 14) at the Mill Creek Fire Hall, 3900 Kirkwood Highway, Marshallton (Wilmington) Delaware.
Upon his return to the United States after serving in the Signal Corps with the U.S. Army in Germany, Harris was hired by DC Comics as part of their “Jr. Woodchuck” program. He worked as assistant to editor Murray Boltinoff, writing text articles and letters columns. His first story as writer was “Political Rally Panic” in Isis #3 (1977). Harris was later promoted to an editor position.
Harris wrote for Kamandi and Wonder Woman most notably, although he wrote stories for a score of DC titles over the years including many issues of House Of Mystery and Sgt. Rock. He also created the first update of Golden Age character The Ray in 1992. Harris also wrote for Marvel, including The Amazing Spider-Man and Incredible Hulk and the Human Torch.
As DC editor, Harris oversaw the first appearances of Black Lightning, Shade The Changing Man, and Firestorm. Harris was also instrumental in DC’s hiring of new talent including Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn, Trevor Von Eden, John Workman, Bob Smith and Brian Bolland.
Harris also wrote a children’s picture book based on The Legend of Zelda Nintendo video games for Golden Books in 1990.
