COLLUSION: SECRET MEETINGS, DIRTY MONEY, AND HOW RUSSIA HELPED DONALD TRUMP WIN by Luke Harding. (Vintage, November 2017) Trade paperback edition, 354 pages. ISBN #978052556251
summary from the Goodreads website . . . . .
With the recent indictments of Paul Manafort, Richard Gates, and George Papadopoulos, Russia expert Luke Harding lays out the most in-depth look to date at the Trump campaign’s dealings with Russia.
Beginning with a meeting with Christopher Steele, the man behind the shattering dossier that first brought the allegations to light, Harding probes the histories of key Russian and American players with striking clarity and insight.
In a thrilling, fast-paced narrative, Harding exposes the disquieting details of the “Trump-Russia” story—a saga so huge it involves international espionage, off-shore banks, sketchy real estate deals, mobsters, money laundering, disappeared dissidents, computer hacking, and the most shocking election in American history.
my review on the Goodreads website . . . . .
Well-researched and structured in order to present the evidence properly, and there is quite a lot of it. Written by an experienced British journalist with no ties to American politics, which should cause the skeptics to be more objective about this work before they claim bias.
Luke Harding has decades of experience with Russia, Russian politics and the methods and procedures of the KGB, Kremlin, and Putin administration.
Much of this information I've previously read, heard or watched on various U.S. news services, but it's all corroborated here. The evidence is hard to ignore or dispute. Harding adds some background information tracing back to a Russian connection with Trump from the 1980's.
One day after I finish this book, a new development occurred that really seems to confirm some of the actions that were alleged to have occurred until now: the indictment of 12 Russian military officers accused of deliberately interfering in the 2016 U.S. elections. That clearly establishes that Russia was behind the hacking, and considering the operatives it's something that Putin had to be aware of.
The indictments and press conference do not mention any Americans involved in the sabotage. However, with all the links to Russia among various current and former members of the Trump cabinet and campaign team one has to suspect that they were also involved.
It seems to me that Trump is very accommodating to Russia and willing to overlook or downplay their wrongful behaviors. If he does not assertively confront Putin over these latest developments that will only serve to confirm the suspicion raised in this book that he is an agent of Russia. If true, that's treason and a very sad day for our country.
