PRE-ORDER PICKS From June 2019's PREVIEWS Catalog

There’s still time to get your pre-orders into your local comics shop. Don’t take for granted that they are automatically going to have available the books you want to read. There’s just too many titles published every month for comic shops to be able to afford that kind of risk.
Pre-ordering helps make them more profitable. Save the local comic shops!

Here are some out-of-the-ordinary books that you may want to add to your pre-order list. I’ve read all of these and personally recommend them:

INVISIBLE KINGDOM Volume 1 Trade Paperback (Dark Horse) Collects Invisible Kingdom #1-5. G. Willow Wilson, writer. Christian Ward, art. On sale November 5.

I’m basing this recommendation on the strength of the first three issues published so far. I’m not a G. Willow Wilson fan, but this original creation is brilliant and should not be missed.

In a beautifully imagined future world by Wilson that is equally gorgeous in its depiction by Ward there is dangerous collusion occurring between a cruel mega-corporation and the leaders of a disciplined religious order. Simultaneously, the conspiracy is discovered by a freighter pilot sub-contracting to the corporation and the newest apprentice to the religion. They combine forces in order to survive and expose the culprits.

WYRD Trade Paperback (Dark Horse) Collects Wyrd #1-4. Curt Pires, writer. Antonio Fuso, art. On sale October 30.

I’m also basing this recommendation on the strength of the first three issues. I haven’t read how this concludes yet, but I”m hoping the series is successful enough for a Round Two.
The concept is intriguing, and the storytelling combination of dark comedy and noir embellished by cinematic illustration is a winner.

Wyrd is a smug but charming anti-hero, an immortal-for-hire who takes on jobs too dangerous or unpopular for government agencies to tackle. The book has been described as “James Bond meets the X-Files” and “James Bond meets Constantine/Hellblazer (when it was good)”. Seems more like “Hellblazer meets the X-Files” to me, which is not a bad thing at all.

WIZARD BEACH Trade Paperback (Boom! Studios) Collects Wizard Beach #1-5. Shaun Simon, writer. Conor Nolan, artist. On Sale October 9.

Whimsical and very entertaining. Hexley laggard Ragbottom, a young wizard in training, seeks out the assistance of his legendary grand wizard uncle to solve a huge problem back home. However, Uncle Salazar has retired, on permanent vacation at the beach. Hexley is torn between the need to help his community with the desire to blend in and chill out on the sunny beach. If the story doesn’t win you over, the art certainly will.
