Testimonial: Indie Comics Creators Are Extremely Busy

EDITOR’S NOTE: Friend of the blog and indie comics creator Gary Scott Beatty has certainly been busy. I’m sharing this update on his work as I’m sure several of the links below will interest some of the Pop Culture Podium readers. Take it from here, Gary . . . . .

Greetings from Aazurn Secret Headquarters, where this week I pulled together the Weedwolf anthology for Golden Frog Press and nearly completed thumbnails for the third chapter of Welcome to Dunwich.

It's always fun to help Publisher Vince Dugar with stoner comics. Weedwolf tales first appeared in Tales from the Danksyde and Vince is collecting the series in an anthology pub. Art is by Richard Becker. Below are covers I colored and lettered for Tales from the Danksyde. See more Golden Frog Press at   http://www.drivethrubud.com

Heritage has a Science Fiction Collection Signature Auction up through August 14, featuring sci-fi magazine cover illustrations from the '40s and '50s. It's the golden age of publication illustration and worth a look:   https://comics.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=52+793+794+791+1893+792+2088+4294944861&type=hero-left-comic-close-5442-SciFi-tem080919

I posted this announcement to a Facebook group whose stated purpose is to teach people how to draw comics. A moderator told me this gallery was inappropriate and turned off comments, even though the rules clearly state "inspiration" as welcome.

Any group claiming to help people with comic art that ignores this golden age of adventure illustration is fraudulent. These insulated fanboys can circle the wagons around what they consider illustration if they want, I'm outta there!

Online, I'm continually reminded how nice it was to have competent people in "editor" roles back in the day.

Friend of Aazurn Terry Cronin describes what makes The Healing unique to comics in this new video from San Diego Comic Con 2019https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew_CXk0mF0U&feature=youtu.be  IdeateTV host Katrina Lee interviews. The typography and coloring you see everywhere is by me. I know I keep saying it, but this massive comic project is growing and will be incredible!

I leave you today with a dragon panel from Indie Comics #3, one of the beginning stories of Gods of Aazurn. Caliber offers these three, full color, digital anthologies here:   http://aazurn.com/books/indie-comics.html  You could try to find the black ink versions of them out in comic shops.

"It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave. And keep on thinking free." wrote the Moody Blues.

So stuff happens. Just chill, most of it won't kill you. Life is just too short to remain upset. Too many people become offended at too many other people. It's OK, most of us aren't idiots and most of us are actually pretty nice. Laugh and move on. Take time to read. It's summer, smell a flower, visit the beach. Just live.

In glorious service to our Aazurn overlords,
Gary Scott Beatty
