Gary Scott Beatty's Column: Beware The Whately House

MORE MUSING FROM OCCASIONAL CONTRIBUTOR AND FRIEND OF THE BLOG GARY SCOTT BEATTY, WHOSE BEEN KEEPING BUSY WITH HIS WELCOME TO DUNWICH PROJECT, AS EXPLAINED BELOW ALONG WITH A WHOLE BUNCH OF OTHER INTERESTING THINGS . . . . . .
The Horror is finally coming into the story in a big way as we near the end of Welcome to Dunwich 3. You didn't think Anna and her Scooby gang would keep it out of Dunwich, did you? I can't wait to start slappin' color on these pages.

Nick is coming to the end of his adventure beneath the Whately house.
Below, page 21, inked, from Welcome to Lovecraft 3.
I'm now setting up 24 pages of the last chapter. Still tweaking the script. Next week: the last inked pages of W2D-3.

The best selling book overall in the U.S. the last week of September? Raina Telgemeier's Guts graphic novel. This wasn't the graphic novel bestseller or the kids bestseller lists, this was the Publishers Weekly BOOK bestseller. Heidi MacDonald tells you all about it here:  https://www.comicsbeat.com/raina-telgemeiers-guts-is-the-bestselling-book-overall-in-the-us-this-week/
Bonus: Dav Pilkey's Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls was number three that week. It debuted at number one. Two out of the five bestselling books that week were graphic novels.

Steve Carter and Antoinette Rydyr's book, Mister Idealize Leaves the Building is being published by Shooting Star Press and is available for preorder. It's a book of surrealist art, comics, puzzles and activities for enquiring minds. Recommended reading for all disgruntled employees.
In a world where so many good artists are trying to look like each other, Carter and Rydyr's high-style illustrations stand apart. Get the book here:  https://www.shootingstar.pub/product/mr-idealize/

Here on Facebook, Kelly Jones recently took the opportunity to talk about the Creepshow II comic book he illustrated in 1986 that was never published. Marvel was nice enough, way back when, to return his pages, which he posted for us to enjoy.

The world of comics is vast and varied, but so is the world in general. Choose the piece of it you enjoy and dig in! Don't disparage others their choices. Vast and varied is good, it discourages hive mind thinking and totalitarianism. There's room for all out there!

In glorious service to our Aazurn overlords,
Gary Scott Beatty
