Golden Age Artist Allen Bellman Allen was born in Manhattan and studied at the High School of Industrial Arts. He eventually became a staff artist at Timely during the Golden Age of comics. While still a teenager, he did backgrounds for Syd Shores’ Captain America in 1942, and eventually worked on characters and titles such as The Patriot, The Destroyer, Human Torch, and Jet Dixon of the Space Squadron, All Winners Comics, Marvel Mystery, Sub-Mariner Comics, Young Allies, and so much more. His first story was called the Patriot, which in modern Marvel Comics, it’s been revealed that the Patriot went on to replace Steve Rogers as Captain America in the late 40s, and even married Captain America’s former girlfriend. Bellman’s self-created back-up crime feature “Let’s Play Detective” was featured in Timely Comics in the 1940s.
