TKO Creator Spotlight: Ming Doyle of The Banks
If you've enjoyed reading our books, you may be curious about the creators who have brought our stories to life. In this issue we're shining a spotlight on Ming Doyle, the artist behind our hit series, The Banks. A self proclaimed “gigantic pop culture nerd”, Ming Doyle has spent most of her life creating and studying art. She knew she wanted to be an artist “the moment my teachers broke out the finger paints in kindergarten”. When asked about books that have influenced her creatively, Ming says “I can’t point to one piece of media and say that it was specifically an influence, but I am personally drawn to anything that sets up an unseen world layered beneath or between the reality of our own.” When illustrating body language and facial expressions of her characters, she often pantomimes movements, and observes people in every day life. Ming’s creative process includes keeping sketchbooks. “I’ll sketch something and move onto something else, kind of just informal… I like the idea of being able to bring that sense of informality in exploration."Ming’s dream project is to adapt Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles in her own style. You can find Ming on Twitter, Instagram, and on her website at mingdoyle.com
