Comics Creators: Here's An Update From COMICS EXPERIENCE

Comics Experience is committed to spreading the message of truth and equality. One where we continually learn, educate and push forward to make a difference.

Our community is safe and inclusive to all. We support each other.
Starts September 9th!
Learn from renowned comics writers/editors Andy Schmidt and Paul Allorwho have edited and written for Marvel Comics and IDW Publishing.
In this class you will conceive, outline and write a complete 5-page comic book script, just the way the pros do it!
In Andy’s six-week intensive class for writers, you’ll learn all the necessary tools and tricks for not only telling great stories, but for doing so in the comics medium—the language of comics, how to format your scripts, the tools of the trade! You’ll also learn about the industry as a whole, tips for breaking in, and the pros and cons of self-publishing! Andy’s course has proven effective for several years and hundreds of students including multiple Marvel and DC Comics writers, top Image Comics creators, and even working editorial staff in nearly every major comics publisher.”
Class is now FULL -- check back soon for new course listings and Master Seminars!
If you’ve ever dreamt of coloring comics, this class is for you!
Color can be an effective tool for creating atmosphere and amplify storytelling in comics. Developed and taught by popular colorist Chris Sotomayor (Avengers, Captain Marvel, Batman, X-Men, and many more), you’ll get access to all the tools of the trade as well as tips on how to break into the industry.
This six-week intensive class for colorists teaches you all the necessary tools and tricks for coloring with Photoshop. Additionally, you will learn how to choose the right color palette and the best way to use color to enhance your storytelling.
Finally, as if that wasn’t enough, you’ll meet an additional professional colorist as a guest speaker! During the course, you will color several comic book pages, including pinups, covers, and interior sequential pages—and rework them with the instructor’s advice.

Support your favorite comic book shop! $50 of the cost of each class goes to the retailer of your choice! Find out how you can help: https://bit.ly/CE-retailer-referral

Milton Lawson joins Joey to talk about publishing his first comic Thompson Heller: Detective Interstellar, and his path to publication. Milton talks about how his comic changed over time with feedback and conversations about story and character.

David Pepose (Spencer & Locke, Going to the Chapel) joins Joey to talk about his Kickstarter The O.Z. #1, and what he learned from his background in comics journalism and through Comics Experience classes that prepared him to make his own comics. And in a second conversation J.D. Oliva (Deluge, The Books of Jericho) talks about the Kickstarter for his prose novel Harvest Moon, what he learned from making comics and Comics Experience that translates to writing prose, and the importance of page turns.
David Pepose - Community Member: "When Dorothy Gale killed the Wicked Witch and returned to Kansas, the resulting power vacuum sent Oz spiraling into decades of civil war. A generation later, Dorothy's Iraq war veteran granddaughter navigates this otherworldly battlefield (and her grandmother's former friends) to bring peace to the Occupied Zone... or as the locals call it, The O.Z."
Keep Believing in Yourself: “Don't give up. I've been told so many times "No, no, no" in my public health career. "You'll never be able to do this." Keep pushing and keep believing in yourself. If it's not working out and not making you happy, find another way to do it.”

Never Give up: “The benefits of being a long-term member: You get to know people more and in a very different way. ‘I remember when you were ready to give up!’ And they persevere. We have all said at some point we're going to give up, but we're still here.”

Honesty From Experts: “Loved the way Soto teaches, can't fault it. He's honest. There's a balance and he gets it spot on. Before I was a colorist I was a teacher myself so I know how hard it is to strike that balance. He really cares, he enjoys it, he's on the right side.”

From writer Luke Durdin and artist Gordon Court:
"Andre exists on the razor's edge between life and death. The daily reality in a thankless paramedic career, scrambling to save victims from the endless mayhem of his crimeridden city.  Andre thinks he's seen the dark side of humanity... Unaware of the rampant increase in missing persons... Of the monster stalking the streets... And he's about to learn that courage and willpower are empty virtues, when faced with suffering and agony devoid of mercy!"

From writer Dave Pantano and artist Diego Toro
"Wally is going to win Gabriella back, and there's nothing Reverse Backfire can do about it... oh, wait, yes there is, as he reveals his hidden agenda. Wally visits the one place he feels welcome - the local comic shop, but the past brings a boatload of mayhem that catches up with Wally and Teryn."

From writer Milton Lawson and artist Dave Chisholm
"Thompson Heller, a private detective who travels the stars solving cases that have political or moral intrigue, travels to a faraway planet to help an old friend accused of murder. Heller doesn't believe his friend is guilty, but video surveillance seems to prove otherwise. While on the case, Heller sees friction in his romantic life. He's falling in love with his recurring intellectual sparring partner, a prominent religious academic. The complication arises from the fact that he's the most prominent atheist in the galaxy. Another impossible case for the man whose friends call him "Hell!"
