As a participating member of the Run The Comics 5K group page on Facebook, sponsored by Captain Blue Hen Comics, he's an active comics reviewer. We'll be posting some of those reviews to this blog on an irregular basis.

Summary on the Goodreads website. . . . . .

5 OUT OF A POSSIBLE 5 STARS . . . . .

Wow. This eviscerated me.

I can't explain to you just how full of child-rearing wisdom, fear, happiness, and all those animalistic, core-of-the-brain kind of elements there are in here. Anytime the daughter, Hazel, narrates the story with the hand-written scratch on the page, they are always wise beyond measure and often darkly funny.

This is such an epic survival tale about sex, life, and death. I just think this shows how the medium can be elevated beyond a comic and really blend art with fiction writing that can stir your soul.

Some issues were slow, and some issues got a little lost in the woods with filler, but by and large, dear god, there's a lot of wit to ponder, tragedy to reminisce about, flaws to consider, morality to gauge, curious ideas, emotional things to laugh and cry out loud about via this little family of Marko and Alana, two species who shouldn't have fallen in love and DEFINITELY shouldn't have procreated, but did. Because, as the book would want me to tell you - fuck the world. Live and love, despite the garbage. And buddy, there's a lot of garbage out there.

If you read comics seriously, I think you have to read all these. These very-adult first 54 issues were recently confirmed to be the first half of the "Saga" story.

SO much humanity and truth, truth, truth exists in these pages. You'll be gutted by some of the things in this book. And other things are gorgeous and thoughtful and your heart will completely swell, especially if you have children. Man.... I can't wait for the next 54 issues. The final cresendo at the exact halfway point.
