What was your inspiration for your coloring style on the project? What artists/creators do you draw inspiration from? Like any project, I try to use a coloring style that suits the art. In this case, I went for a flatter, almost cardboard cut-out look, with a very limited color palette. Whenever I do this kind of stuff, my main sources of inspiration are Patrick Leger and Francesco Francavilla (who are masters at this retro/pulp look). Any themes of moods you were trying to convey with your coloring?
Well, the moods are generally dictated by the story. But again, I was going for a generally vintage/pulpy kind of vibe—the sort of thing you’d see in AMAZING STORIES—which is what I got from the script. What excites you most about the future of comics right now?
With pretty much the whole industry currently shutdown, I’m honestly more excited for all the indie and crowd-funded stuff. I feel like the Big Two have been stagnating for the past decade, and they don’t seem like they really know how to connect with the audience anymore. This is the perfect time for creative pioneering people to swoop in and really shake things up, much like in the ’90s. |
