Run The Comics 5K's Matt Lowder returns with another review . . . . . . .
Witch Doctor (#0 + #1-4, Image 2011) Four Out Of A Possible Five Stars.
Grey's Anatomy meets The Exorcist in this twisted, smart, darkly humorous supernatural book.
An Occult Physician named Dr Vincent Morrow comes off as a witty-fast-talker in the vein of Johnny Depp, David Tennant, or Robert Downey Jr. Each issue takes on a new case of possession or curse in a various town, all off-the-wall scenarios pitting Dr Morrow against doubters, parents, and priests as he hacks and slashes (with swords or syringes) his way to freeing the poor soul bound to damnation.
Issue #4 is particularly comical as Dr Morrow defends his license to practice via flashback while sitting at a board meeting for "Mystics Without Borders" who are very upset with his antics.
If glyphs, spells, and moments of medical genius are your cup of tea, WITCH DOCTOR is a sick-in-the-head-funny mini-series with some of the best, nastiest monster design I've ever seen. If you're sarcastic or a little bent in the head, you'll probably chuckle like I did.
Sadly, the book only lasts for one more arc, a second volume collecting "Witch Doctor: Mal Practice #1-6" which was published in 2013, then the comic was cancelled.
Loved witch doctor wish there were more
