HAWKMAN, VOLUME 1: AWAKENING (DC, 2019 Collects Hawkman #1-6
Hawkman is a character I’ve always found cool but I can’t say was one of my favorites. The only comic stuff I read with him was JSA and he was always a tertiary character in media like Super Friends, Justice League Unlimited, Smallville, and Legends of Tomorrow.
After reading this it makes me wonder why hasn’t he gotten his own movie? I know he’s got one of the most confusing histories and that would probably be a turnoff (along with him not being an A-list character or Batman) but reading this actually helped me understand it better.
I loved seeing his interactions with people he’s helped from his various lives, the archeologist stuff was fun, and his friendship with Ray Palmer was great. As I said, I’ve never read much of his other solo titles (I did read the first two issues of this run and a few from the late 80s) but I really latched onto that friendship.
I’m sad that this current title is ending, especially with how great the story and art have been.
