AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 11: NYC on FX network: Maybe
the most disturbing season yet. Gritty, gruesome and gory. The story occurs
in New York City in the 1980's where a string of serial killings involving
gay men gets no attention from the NY Police Department. An editor for the
local LGBTQ newspaper and his companion (a police officer) try to unravel the
mystery. There's a second plot rotating within the series that involves the
emergence of a new virus among the deer population on Fire Island, that later
makes it's way into the city and also infects only gay men.
The former mystery wraps up in Episode 8 of this 10 episode season, and follows
the large cast of characters as they try to adjust to life and romance. The virus
is symbolic of the AIDS virus, and the last two episodes make no bones about it,
dealing with efforts to draw attention to the threat as well as watch it take down
some major characters. The latter episodes were very surrealistic and a bit
vague on purpose. THREE AND ONE-HALF STARS.
