Baltimore Comic-Con 2025 Announces Panel Programming

EDITOR'S NOTE: Every year I look forward to the panel programming at Baltimore Comic Con. There are many options, and a commendable effort is made to offer a wide diversity of themes. All too often, there are two panels occurring at the same time and I have to make a hard choice about which to attend. All panels are free with the price of admission. I've highlighted the panels below that are of particular interest to me - which you can assume is my personal recommendation. I never get to all of the ones I want to attend - - because there also so much else going on at BCC . . . . .

The Avengers in the Veracity Trap by Chip Kidd

The fun starts on Friday with superstars Brian K. VaughanDerek Kirk KimJeph Loeb, and Tom King talking about The Art of Reinvention across comics and other media. Also, celebrate 35 years of the seminal miniseries Breathtaker by Mark Wheatley and Marc Hempel, and writer Mark Waid returns to tackle trivia from The New History of DC Comics. New publisher Ignition Press presents a panel of their own, and we’ll host a live episode of the Random Acts of Comics podcast with Todd Dezago and friends, while Chip Kidd and Michael Cho, the team behind The Avengers in the Veracity Trap!, discuss their collaboration. Our spotlight panels shine a light on cartoonists Stan Sakai and Jeff Smith, writer Chris Claremont, acclaimed actor Carl Lumbly, and Phineas and Ferb voice actors Vincent Martella and David Errigo Jr. And aspiring artists can get their portfolios reviewed by DC Comics Senior Editor Brittany Holzherr.

On Saturday, students of cartooning learn the basics in Hit the Ground Running: Comics 101 with School of Visual Arts instructor Jamal Igle, and find out which Tools of the Trade cartoonists like David Petersen and Zoe Thorogood must have at their drawing boards. Check out what’s coming from publishers Oni Press and Bad Idea, and learn how to turn your passion into a profession with the Maryland Institute College of Art. And you can hear the story of comics retailing with a screening of the award-winning documentary, Shopping for Superman.Plus, our spotlight panels feature creators Tom KingPaul PopeMike Grell, and James Robinson, as well as on-screen Weasley siblings Bonnie WrightJames Phelps, and Oliver Phelps, and legendary actor Giancarlo Esposito. Stan Sakai is best known as the writer and artist of Usagi Yojimbo, first published in 1984. The rabbit bodyguard has been published by Fantagraphics, Mirage Publishing, IDW, and Dark Horse Comics, and has appeared on TV as a guest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well as in his own animated series on Netflix, along with toys, clothing, games, and other licensed products. Find out what it’s like to work in the same industry as your life partner in this fun panel! 12:00-12:45 - Superman’s Co-Creator Jerry Siegel: Do We Have the Whole Story?

Jerry Siegel, co-creator of Superman with artist Joe Shuster, has gained a legendary status based on the fans’ love of the Man of Tomorrow. Since 1975, the Superman saga, chronicled by comics luminaries such as Neal Adams, Jerry Robinson, and others, has portrayed Superman’s creators as hapless victims of a greedy corporation. However, documentary evidence, much only recently unearthed, paints a different portrait of complicated legal and personal circumstances. Mark S. Zaid (attorney and comic book historian) along with Andrew Fogel, PhD (popular culture historian, author of “Superman's Jaw,” and Visiting Scholar at the Center for Jewish History) will reveal this hidden history with Mark Waid (noted DC/Marvel editor/writer) serving as the voice of Siegel’s own words.
