PROMETHEUS (2012) on the FX Channel: Along with the seasonal
Halloween horror movie marathons on various channels, FX ran an ALIEN
marathon, so I used it as an opportunity to catch up on some of the films
that I hadn't seen.
I did see this before and wasn't impressed, but I didn't give it a fair view.
I was traveling and working and put this on in a hotel room while I was doing
paperwork, so I only gave it half of my attention - mainly using it for background
noise.
This viewing I concentrated on the visuals and the storyline. This is
brilliant and a great science fiction movie. Since it doesn't feature the familar
xenomorph they didn't stick the ALIEN prefix on the movie title - and that's fair
- - why mislead the movie-goer?
However, it's a prequel of sorts and reveals that the xenomorphs were actually
designed and manufactured by another ultra-intelligent race (The Engineers) that
may also be the parents of Earth. There are plenty of creepy variations on the standard
xenomorph to provide the scares here.
A well-rounded cast that really brings the story home. Director Ridley Scott knows
exactly what he is doing. FOUR AND ONE-HALF STARS.
