The benefits of the audio book version are many.
The narrator's inflections and tone add extra emphasis to each story.
Hearing the author's own voice made it more special in that I obtained a good feel for the person behind the words - - engaging, a little bit cynical but in such humorous ways, a great sense of the humor in ordinary things, and a creativity that adds spice to what might seem mundane.
Every story in here produced a chuckle, and ended satisfactorily except for the journal of the housewife who objects to the presence of some unwelcome family members. That was funny throughout but took a very nasty and shocking turn at the end that I didn't see coming.
There's some great stuff here, and I'm going to look for more from Sedaris - - maybe read the next one so I can savor his choice of words and phrases better.
