Indie Creator Spotlight: GARY SCOTT BEATTY Of Aazurn Publishing

EDITOR’S NOTE: Thanks to a very modest goal, Gary’s latest Kickstarter project was funded on Day 1. However, there’s plenty of time to jump on board if you want to own some of his original works. What follows is a complete preview of the art and content featured on the Kickstarter page. GUEST COLUMN BY CREATOR GARY SCOTT BEATTY

GOAL REACHED! Thanks to you, this project IS happening.

In glorious service to our Aazurn overlords, "Gods of Aazurn" is four mature reader comics with horrific gods and creepy monsters.

This is mostly a “Digital Only” campaign, and you can get your hands on PDFs of issues #1, #2 and #3 — and be the first to read the NEW "Gods of Aazurn: Witches" graphic novel — through this Kickstarter.

Pledge with confidence! Other than the last half of "Witches," these stories are ready to deliver. And we WILL reached our Kickstarter goal!

GODS OF AAZURN: WITCHES

A mysterious suicide leads three children to a coven in direct communion with a God of Aazurn. Secret armies are assembling for Armageddon, but the children have secrets of their own.

GODS OF AAZURN #1, #2 AND #3

They are frightful and dark and divine, and their subjects despair. So far, the Gods of Aazurn do not care about us, even enough to reach down a mighty hand to be cruel. That's about to change.

HI, I'M GARY

I’ve been entertaining readers with thoughtful and exciting stories for many years, since winning a Xeric Grant for “Jazz: Cool Birth” (one of the stories in "Worlds"). Bleeding Cool called my comic, “Number One,” one of the best indie comics of 2014! I've been posting the Gods of Aazurn webcomic weekly since July.

My influences are H.P. Lovecraft, Creepy magazine, Universal monster movies, underground comic horror, and ’70s B-movies, with a healthy dose of early Vertigo comics.

I’m looking forward to putting "Gods of Aazurn: Witches" in your hands so you can read it before anyone else!

WHY KICKSTARTER?

I love the one-on-one with people who are truly interested in my books. People here are like me: we support indie books from creative people. We like different. I’ve backed many projects here and have discovered many incredible creators.

MONEY BREAKDOWN

I’m trying to recoup a portion of my webcomic expense with this Kickstarter. The printed books are through my publisher, Caliber Comics. Since the digital and physical books are already produced, (with half of "Witches" to go), nearly all of the Kickstarter money raised will go toward printing and shipping you stuff.

The Gods of Aazurn stories are digital, so we have no print costs, just production. Gotta love pixels.

INDIE COMICS #1, #2 AND #3

"INDIE COMICS" #1, #2 and #3 is the anthology that premiered my Gods of Aazurn stories! A variety of creators share horror, adventure and more. 52 full color PDF pages each x 3 = 156 pages of excitement!

THE PHYSICAL GRAPHIC NOVELS

"WOUNDS." Is madness a way to survive the zombie apocalypse? Gary Scott Beatty drops us into a world where nothing is beyond doubt, except a father's concern for his family. If you enjoy that "What th-?" factor in graphic novels, you'll enjoy "Wounds." 56 full color pages.

"The story keeps you guessing till the end." — Troy Vevasis

"JAZZ: MIDNIGHT." Five standalone stories on a central theme come together with a twist — like a masterful, cool jazz solo! Beatty’s illustration style, inspired by '50s jazz album cover design, drops readers into the late night music clubs of 1957. 56 pages in glorious '50s black and white.

"Gary Scott Beatty continues to stretch the boundaries of comic books, graphic design, album artwork and storytelling all in one fell swoop." – Tom Arvis

“WORLDS: THREE STORIES BY GARY SCOTT BEATTY” features stories, gallery pages, and articles, in 96 full color pages!

• Adam Among the Gods: Science's revered first immortal before the rise of the New Humans is ugly and deformed, worshiped, undying and hopelessly alone. Illustrated by James (Saint Germaine) Lyle.

"This is a wonderful morality tale done in the tradition of the Twilight Zone."— Odinson, Lone Star Comics Archivist, My Comic Shop.com

• Seductions: A vampire wakes 10 years after each feeding and he must always decide: heart's desire or dinner? Pencils by Bill (Oz) Bryan.

“Seductions draws the reader into the vampire’s hunt for ‘life’ and love. One feels his pain even as one loathes his manipulative manner. Seductions earns four Tonys.” — Tony Isabella, Comic Buyers Guide #1644

• “Jazz: Cool Birth” is a murder mystery in a 1957 jazz club, with color illustrations inspired by '50s album cover design by Gary Scott Beatty.

"A fantastic blend of art and text." — Paul Bishop, Bish’s Beat

Risks and challenges

Little risk — other than the last half of Witches, these stories are ready to go! I’m a planner, and I’ve thought through the processes needed to deliver these quality books into your hands, just as I have with the many comic book projects I’ve handled over the years.

I’m eager to share these stories with you. My goal is to be sure every backer is satisfied and entertained!
